With a JR Pass, Hikari and Kodama are covered. Nozomi needs a separate NOZOMI MIZUHO Ticket per ride: ¥4,960 Tokyo–Kyoto or Tokyo–Shin-Osaka, ¥6,500 Tokyo–Hiroshima, ¥4,960 Shin-Osaka–Hakata. Without a pass, Nozomi reserved seats cost a few hundred yen more than the Hikari fares shown.

What would make the other option cheaper?
- Add about ¥5,370 of covered JR travel inside the same 7 days (for example a Himeji stop or Hiroshima-area JR rides) and the pass breaks even.
- Buying through an overseas agency at ¥53,000 widens the gap to ¥8,370.
- If you would ride Nozomi from Hiroshima to Tokyo with the pass, add ¥6,500 for the NOZOMI MIZUHO Ticket, which favours individual tickets.
