Yes, an IC card can cover the basic fare, but tapping Suica or PASMO alone is not enough. You still need a Narita Express limited-express ticket—either a paper ticket or an eligible Express Train e-ticket—and reserve a seat if you want a specific one.
JR East requires tickets from age 6. Children aged 6 to 11 use child fares, while travelers aged 12 and over pay the adult fare. A child under 6 also needs a ticket or pass to use a reserved seat. The N’EX TOKYO Round Trip Ticket is ¥2,600 for an eligible child.
A valid nationwide Japan Rail Pass covers JR limited express travel in the pass class, including ordinary-car Narita Express travel. Reserve a seat before boarding when possible; seat reservations do not add a charge for a covered ordinary-car journey.
JR East says a round-trip ticket reserved online can be picked up only at Narita Airport Terminal 1 Station or Narita Airport Terminal 2·3 Station. It cannot be picked up at another station, so check the pickup instructions before paying.
